Daily IELTS Study Note — 2026-10-28
1. Four-Skill Overview
- Listening: Listen for signposting words: however, in contrast, as a result, finally.
- Reading: Identify the paragraph's topic sentence before checking details.
- Writing: Use a clear position and two logically developed body paragraphs.
- Speaking: Give a direct answer, then explain it with a reason and example.
2. Main Focus: Giving Clear, Developed Answers
Use this structure for Speaking Part 2 and Part 3:
Answer → Reason → Example → Result/Reflection
Avoid short answers such as “Yes, I do.” Add a reason and a specific example.
3. Speaking Topic: A Skill You Would Like to Learn
Student Identity Version
I would like to learn photography because it would help me capture everyday moments in a more meaningful way. At the moment, I usually take quick photos with my phone, but I do not pay much attention to composition or lighting. If I had more time, I would join a weekend course and practise taking portraits and street photographs. I think this skill would make me more observant and creative, and it would also give me a relaxing hobby outside my studies.
Working Professional Version
I would like to improve my public-speaking skills. In my work, I often need to explain complex issues and results to people with different backgrounds. Although I can usually communicate the key information, I sometimes make my explanations too detailed. I would like to learn how to structure a presentation more effectively, emphasise the main message, and respond to questions with greater confidence. This would make my communication more efficient and help me contribute more actively in meetings.
4. Band 7.5–8.0 Expressions
- make a meaningful difference to...
- step outside my comfort zone
- communicate the key message clearly
- turn a weakness into a strength
- a practical and rewarding skill
Useful pattern:
What makes this particularly valuable is that it would allow me to [benefit], rather than simply [common but limited benefit].
5. Writing Practice
Topic: Some people believe that schools should teach practical skills, while others think academic subjects are more important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Suggested position:
Academic subjects provide essential knowledge and analytical ability, but practical skills should also be taught because they help students apply knowledge in real-life situations. A balanced curriculum is therefore the most effective approach.
Suggested structure:
- Introduction: paraphrase the topic and state a balanced opinion.
- Body 1: explain the value of academic knowledge and critical thinking.
- Body 2: explain the value of financial, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Conclusion: restate that both areas should be integrated.
6. Common Errors and Upgrades
- Basic: I want to learn it because it is useful.
- Upgrade: I am keen to learn it because it would be directly applicable to both my professional and personal life.
