Daily IELTS Practice — 2026-11-11
- Study day:
- Target score: Band 7.5–8.0
- Estimated study time: 100–110 minutes
- Main focus: Speaking fluency and development; Writing Task 2 argumentation and cohesion
- Maintenance focus: Listening and Reading accuracy
Describe a difficult problem you solved(描述你解决过的一个困难问题)。
| Skill | Time | Task | Measurable output |
|---|---|---|---|
| Writing | 40 min | Task 2
| Review | 5 min |
- Writing:每个观点是否回答了 “why/how/so what”?
3. Speaking 主课:Describe a difficult problem you solved
题目
Describe a difficult problem you solved.
You should say:
- what the problem was;
- when and where you faced it;
- what you did to solve it;
- and explain how you felt after solving it.
STAR + reflection
- Situation:
- Task/Problem:
- Action:
- Result:
Student version(学生版示范,约 1 分 45 秒)
One difficult problem I solved was preparing a group presentation when two members of my team suddenly became unavailable. It happened during my final year at university, and we had only four days before the presentation.
At first, I was worried because the work was divided into several parts, and nobody had a complete view of the assignment. Instead of blaming the absent members, I asked everyone who was still available to send me their notes. I then put the information into one outline and identified the most important points. After that, I redistributed the remaining tasks according to each person’s strengths. I also created a simple shared checklist so that we could see what had been finished and what still needed attention.
We practised twice before the presentation. In the end, we delivered it on time and received positive comments from our teacher, especially about the logical structure. I felt relieved, but I was also proud because I had learned that a difficult situation becomes more manageable when the team has a clear plan. It also made me more confident about taking responsibility when unexpected problems occur.
Working-professional version(职场版示范,约 2 分钟)
One difficult problem I solved happened while I was supporting a long-running test assignment. A test run stopped unexpectedly, and the initial symptoms suggested that the device had lost its connection. The difficulty was that the same symptom could have been caused by the network, the test script, or the device itself, so restarting everything immediately would not have produced reliable evidence.
I first preserved the existing logs and wrote down the exact time and iteration at which the failure occurred. Then I separated confirmed facts from assumptions. For example, I could confirm that the connection was unavailable at that moment, but I could not claim that the device had crashed because no dump had been captured. I checked the serial and network evidence, compared the failure with earlier iterations, and asked a colleague to review the interpretation independently. Finally, I prepared a short summary containing the workplaces, build, failed case, iteration, log path, and the next verification step.
The immediate issue was not fully fixed that day, but we avoided an incorrect root-cause assignment and made the next rerun much more focused. I felt satisfied because the real solution was not simply getting the test running again; it was turning an ambiguous failure into a structured investigation. The experience taught me to be systematic and precise, especially when the available evidence is incomplete.
Part 3
- Why do some people panic when they face a difficult problem?
- Are practical skills more important than academic knowledge?
- Should employers train workers to solve problems independently?
- Do modern technologies make problem-solving easier?
|---|---|---|---|
| The main difficulty was that... | What made it particularly challenging was that...
| Instead of jumping to conclusions,... | 不急于下结论 | Rather than making an unverified assumption,...
| I broke the problem down into manageable steps. | 我把问题拆成可处理的小步骤 | I approached it in a structured, step-by-step way.
| This allowed me to... | As a result, I was able to...
| The immediate result was..., but the longer-term benefit was... | Although the short-term outcome was..., it also enabled...
| I cannot say for certain that... | The available evidence did not justify the conclusion that...

| There is no single solution. | 没有唯一解决方案 | The most effective approach depends on the circumstances.
At first, Once I had done that, The turning point came when, In the end。
5. Writing Task 2
题目
Some people think schools should focus more on practical skills than on traditional academic subjects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
这是 opinion essay(观点类作文)。
- Introduction:
- Conclusion:
Useful language
- There is a strong case for...
- This is particularly relevant because...
- That said, it would be short-sighted to...
- A more sustainable approach would be to...
- The two areas are complementary rather than mutually exclusive.
- This would equip students to...
Band 7.5–8.0 model response(约 285 词)
There is growing pressure on schools to prepare students for the practical demands of adult life, and some people therefore argue that practical skills should receive more attention than traditional academic subjects. I partly agree with this view, although I believe the most effective education combines both areas.
Practical skills deserve a more prominent place in the curriculum because they can help students function independently outside the classroom. Basic financial literacy, effective communication, digital competence and simple problem-solving are relevant to almost everyone, regardless of their future career. For example, a student who understands how to manage a budget or evaluate information online may be better prepared for university, employment and everyday decisions than one who has only memorised theoretical content. In this sense, practical education can make learning more purposeful and improve students’ transition into adulthood.
However, reducing the importance of traditional subjects would be short-sighted. Academic disciplines provide the foundations on which many practical abilities depend. Strong language skills are necessary for clear communication, while mathematics supports financial planning, data interpretation and complex work. History and science can also develop the ability to evaluate evidence and recognise unreliable claims. These benefits may be less immediately visible than learning how to write a CV, but they remain valuable throughout a person’s education and career. In addition, students need a broad knowledge base in order to adthe current programme when technology and workplace requirements change.
Rather than treating the two types of learning as competitors, schools should integrate them. A mathematics lesson could include household budgeting, while science students could apply their knowledge to an environmental assignment. This approach would preserve academic depth while making it more relevant to real life. Therefore, practical skills should be expanded, but they should complement, not replace, traditional subjects.
- 是否明确回答了“to what extent”?
6. Listening maintenance
- 说话人如何修正观点:Actually, Come to think of it, I’m not sure that’s quite right;
- 因果和转折:that’s why, whereas, despite this;
The original plan looked efficient, but it turned out to be too dependent on data that was not consistently available.
问:Why did the original plan have to be changed? Because it relied too heavily on data that was not consistently available.
7. Reading maintenance
- 用一句英文写出段落主旨,限制在 15 个词以内;
- 标记 3 个关键词和 2 个支持细节;
Paragraph: Practical training is most effective when learners understand why a procedure works, rather than simply copying each step. A worker who knows the underlying principle can adthe current programme the procedure when equipment, time or safety conditions change. This does not make theoretical knowledge more important than practice; instead, it shows why the two should be taught together.
Possible heading:
A. Why practical training should be removed from schools B. The value of combining principles with practice C. How workers can memorise procedures quickly
Answer: B。
8. Pronunciation、shadowing
9. Common errors
| Common error | Better version | Note |
|---|---|---|
| I faced a difficult problem and I solved it successfully. | I dealt with a challenging situation and eventually resolved it. |
| The reason is because the deadline was short. | The reason was that the deadline was tight. | 不要把 the reason is 和 because 重复叠加。 |
| We discussed about the issue. | We discussed the issue. | discuss |
| The information were incomplete. | The information was incomplete. | information |
| Practical skills are more important than academic subjects in all cases. | Practical skills can be more immediately useful, but their value depends on the context. | IELTS |
| Firstly... secondly... finally...(每题都这样说) | At first... once that was done... in the end...
I was very nervous because the problem was very difficult.
I was under considerable pressure because the cause of the issue was unclear and time was limited.
10. Review

11. Next-day preparation(2026-11-12,)
Describe a useful piece of advice you received,重点练习举例、让步和结果表达;Writing 可练 advantages and disadvantages essay。
- 写下一个真实建议及其背景、内容、结果各一句;
- 复习今天的 8 个表达,选择 3 个用于新答案;
- 预留 20 分钟完成一个 Listening Section 2 或 Reading matching headings 小练习;
